When to start applying for fall internships?

Fall 2014 internships usually start around the end of August in the United States. If you haven’t yet started applying for internships then not only start applying for internships online but also look for any job fairs around the place you are living. A lot of companies who are in urgent need of resources come up at job fairs where they recruit candidates on the spot!!

Pro-active students usually start applying for fall internships during spring but that doesn’t mean you are too late. Update your resume if you haven’t done already and start shooting off your resume to employers not tomorrow but today!!  :)

Good luck :D

Good cheap car for college students

If you are looking to buy a new car then the Toyota Prius C is going to be a really good fit for you. The lowest variant of the car costs about $19,000 making it one of the cheapest hybrid cars in the market. On top of that the car gives about 46-53 mpg making it one of the most fuel efficient cars, and will save you about $300-400 each other in fuel costs compared to other 25-30 mpg cars.

If you are planning to study three-four years at your school then instead of buying a car, you might just opt-in going for the monthly lease or loan. Depending on your financial situation, a lease can be a better option as you will have more money in your hands as compared to if you bought the car with a one time payment.

If you are not interested in hybrids then have a look at Toyota Yaris which has a cost of only $14,000!!

What to do if you break up with someone?

Breaking up with someone can be really hard BUT that does not mean it’s the end of your life. You might be asking yourself what you need to do now and the answer to that question is NOTHING. You won’t be texting this person, you won’t be calling this person and most importantly, you won’t be going at this person’s place.

Break ups usually mean that the relationship is over and even though you might reconcile, you will end up breaking up again.

Note that there is a difference between “breaking up” and “argument”, former happening when the one person does not have any respect for the other person and thinks that they are in control of the relationship. An argument usually happens when the person involved does not agree with other’s opinion.

Best laptop for students under $800 – July 2014

Microsoft seems to have released Surface Pro 3 a while back and seems like this one is a lot lot better than the previous one. The Surface Pro 3 features a 12 inch high resolution screen, 4th generation Intel processor and upto 512 GB SSD solid state drive.

At $799, I believe that Microsoft Surface Pro 3 will be the cheapest laptop in the market that you can get with a 2160 x 1440 resolution screen.

Unlike previous Surface tablets which came with RT version of Windows, this one comes loaded with full Windows 8.1 Operating System allowing you to run all windows applications without any issues.

How to deal with messy roommates?

Some options for you in case you got really messy roommates.

  1. You can take the responsibility of cleaning up their mess. While you will end up with a really clean and tidy place, it is unlikely that your housemates will ever be cleaning up their mess. This can be time consuming and will just piss you off. If you follow this approach, it is unlikely that your housemates will ever be cleaning up their mess.
  2. You can ask your housemates politely to clean up. This can be done verbally but if you feel uncomfortable you can write them a note or send them a text message. Your housemates might follow up with you and start cleaning up their mess.
  3. In case asking them to clean up doesn’t work and you can’t be bothered with cleaning up their shit, you can start moving up their mess on their bed. Dirty dishes? Put them on their bed. Laundry piling up in the lounge? Put them on their bed. Your housemates will get the message and start cleaning up. This approach is very effective.

In case none of the above works, I would recommend that you either adjust or move out of the house.

Is linkedin.com useful for finding jobs?

I have never been contacted by a genuine recruiter through Linkedin but recently while I was chatting with one of my mates, I was told that he got contacted by a top IT firm for a position ($100K+!/yr) and that they found him through Linkedin! Hmm…

So what made the company contact him and not rest of us folks?

Dude has a solid profile on Linkedin! He has explained role and responsibilities that he had in the past in DETAIL and has also highlighted his achievements in the job description which you guys should definitely consider if you want to standout from the crowd.

Is it worth attending job fairs?

As a student I always found that all of the university job fairs that I attended proved fruitless for me. Most of the employers did not seem that they were recruiting but seemed more like they were just showing up their faces to show the company in a positive light. Also since most of the attendees are unemployed (students), the chances of me getting contacted by a recruiter are slim because of too many candidates applying for same position.

Recently I attended a career fair in my city and got contacted by one of the companies with whom I also ended up getting a job offer from!

TLDR: Not all job fairs are bad. Attend one if you are looking for a job.
